about

The story behind this one is as follows. I've been listening to my old Linear Functions stuff a lot as I've been working on that in recent months. It's got me remembering much of how I used to have to produce back then and what kind of mindset I was in at the time. After doing that I felt it like a soft reset in a way, as I'd forgotten many of the things which drove me at the time, things which made me want to make that kind of music. And so for this album I effectively improvised sequence and percussive development over a self-generating backdrop as per RadioSilence. A few bits & bobs added, a few tweaks made and several edits later, we're done.
A fairly dry production for me, as opposed to my usual vast cavernous reverbs. Mainly because I got used to hearing just how dry my very early synth music was. Cos dry is good, less is more and all that twaddle.

Pontianak
I thought I'd use the Indonesian version of the word "Kuntilanak", for reasons which should be apparent! It's a supernatural thing like La Llorona or a "White Lady". In this case it's a track name and has jack all connection to any woo-woo.

Bleutopia
If you can pronounce this I'd have a bucket handy.
These tracks are all really simple sequencer ostinatos improved over loooong self-generating notes, with a couple of things tagged on for the craic.

Transitory
In fact, now I've told you the albums formula there's not much else to say, so I can prattle on about anything! Tell you what, it was extremely hot here in the garage while I was having fun with these tracks. Jolly good weather for my 14 tomato plants currently taking over the garden.

Red Masque
Dis got an video... www.youtube.com/watch?v=6QFlkxqwEM8
A slow ominous sounding 6/8 piece. Anyway, you know how I know if a chillout track is chilled enough? Because one or more of the cats will come and sit like a loaf oriented towards the speakers, then just nap there.

Planetia
Oh, yes I have been doing some binaural Dolby Atmos stuff to this album in post-production. You'll notice it mostly on headphones. Don't worry about it though, it's just stereo with psychacoustics.

Boreal Pale
Ah, the art. It's all done on Midourney AI these days. If you use it yourself you'll find me on Discord as postpunkfartknocker. I find it extremely handy, as someone who likes to make his own designs. They keep adding new AI features all the time. It'll probably stumble upon wormhole technology soon enough, at which point I expect we'll all disappear up a giant glowing butthole only to be dumped unceremoniously onto the beach at Bognor Regis.

Route 65
It's not Route 66. I was born in 65 anyway, so...
Bloody hell that's a long time ago. Anyway, as I've clearly run out of anything remotely interesting to write about I shall wrap it up here. Enjoy :-)

Produced by AP. Uploaded as 24bit wavs, except the 16bit whole album file. Art also by AP.
About Atmos : it works fine on any stereo and will sound quite immersive depending on your setup. It's really good on headphones and on a home theatre type setup. If you've already got Atmos it might set off all the car alarms on the block and open up a wormhole in the back garden, I'm just not sure. But it'll sound great no doubt.
